Mr Dead End
My career was going nowhere. I’d been pushed aside; I was looking at a dead end job. There was nothing I could do to get back on top, back on track. It wasn’t my fault...it was the company. They just didn’t value me any more. I was grouchy, unhappy, feeling down a lot. Everything seemed a real drag, even getting out of bed some days was hard. But how was I going to get another job if no one wanted me?
Tom helped me see how what I’d done in the past was valuable.· He helped me look afresh at my previous achievements and see past the situation I was in right now. The tools he used helped me prove to myself first how valuable I really was to a business...and then to my new employer. I got a new job at a bigger organisation at a more senior level. I feel much more in control, the and I'm thinking more rationally about my mortgage. I also have time for a regular round of golf...and that helps keep my networks strong. I’ve been in my new job for three years, and I haven’t looked back.
Ms Can’t Cope
Everything was fine until the restructure and expansion. I was a director...part of the senior management team...respected. With all the changes and new employees with big ambitions, office politics got harder to negotiate, and I was totally out of my comfort zone. I really felt pressure to adapt, and that made me anxious about how I was doing my job. There’d been some criticism. I didn’t want to leave, I really liked my job. But I was worried about how I was reacting to people and how I was feeling negative about changes and directions.
Tom helped me understand things about my own and other people’s personal styles and about recognising and re-framing assumptions. The techniques he used helped me see how I could structure approaches to dealing with difficult situations effectively and overcome issues and problems. I now feel much more in control and I don’t stress at home about what’s happening at work. My last performance review was promising and I’m now being groomed for a more senior role.
Mr Too-Far-Away
Where was I going to get help all the way out in the back of beyond? I really felt I needed some professional career counselling, but there was no one around here. And you know what small town country gossip is like – I didn’t want half the place knowing what I was doing. I couldn’t take the time off work to go to a major centre so I felt very isolated. How was I going to get to the next step? It seemed an insurmountable problem.
But I did have my PC and a good internet connection. Tom helped me through virtual technology to assess my strengths and capabilities with psychological tests, making me feel ready to move to a bigger pond. He helped me make a seamless transition to a big international business, and now I’m coping really well in a big city and making an important contribution to my new company. I feel great about the changes I’ve made.
Mr Almost There
I’d been tapped on the shoulder and given the nod – I was CEO material. But I still had some hoops to jump through. I didn’t want to pass up this great opportunity. The company wanted to make sure I was the right fit for their senior management team and that my directions and priorities were aligned with theirs.
Tom helped me understand and recognise my motives, values and personal attributes through psychological tests. He also worked with me to construct a development plan that made sure my own needs and the company’s needs were heading in the same direction. I felt very confident that I could move forward to a new future in the senior executive and be happy and fulfilled in that role. Since then, I’ve been promoted and I’m undergoing executive training overseas. Next stop? CEO.
Ms Brand New
What did I know? I was bound to make some sort of blunder because I was just out of Uni. If I stick to the easy stuff I’ll be safe, but on the other hand, if I don’t take risks and show how good I am I’ll never get anywhere.
Tom helped me recognise that I could take on things that I hadn’t done before and succeed, and wow did I learn a lot about the business in a short time. I went ahead in leaps and bounds and soon enough, someone noticed how good my performance was. I was given more responsibility, became a team leader, but it was so good knowing Tom was there if I needed help or a bit of extra support. It made me feel so much more confident than when I started.
